Uncovering the Patterns of Socioeconomic Variables and Voting Turnout
E. Benrithung Patton
Abstract:
One approach at examining the factors that affect voting turnout is the role of socio-economic status (SES). The presence of formal education, age of citizens, gender, income, etc can all impact the degree to which political participation is exhibited. It holds that those with high socio-economic status are more likely to participate in politics. Political behavior like any other aspect of human behavior takes place in a particular socio-economic and cultural milieu. But the association between political participation and some of this socio-economic status differ relatively in terms of culture, space, time, individuals and of political context. Usually, that a voter‟s turnout is influenced by the level of SES has been built around the assumption that, socio-economic variables effect political participation of citizens. However, the present study found out that only certain socio-economic factors have effect on voting turnout of the voters in spite of the overall high voting participation.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN IN INDIA
Dr. Roshan Lal Vashist
Abstract:
Socio-economic development is the process of social and economic development in a society and is measured in terms of income, life expectancy, literacy and levels of employment. Among other indicators of socio-economic development, women education being the most powerful tool of attaining power in the society. The gross enrolment ratio in elementary education of girls has improved much which shows that the awareness level of parents in the country has certainly increased for elementary education of female child. While gross enrolment of girls in senior secondary level, it increased to 53.2% in 2014-15 from 25.2% during 2005-06, more than two times increased during this period, still more is to be done. However women are still lagging behind in higher education. Gender discrimination still persists in India and lot more needs to be done in the field of women's education. During the last few years atrocities against women have increased. There are many episodes of rape, murder, dowry, wife beating and discrimination in the socio-economic status of women. The main causes of violence against women in our country are unequal power-relations, gender discrimination, and economic dependence of women, dowry and lack of participation of women in decision-making process. Women in our country are far behind then men as far as work participation is concerned. The main female workers are mostly engages as cultivators and agricultural labours. These women are lagging far behind than men and their work participation is below average (39.79) person. It also indicates that women are less likely to work because they earn less per day wages than men for similar work. The ratio of female to male population in India has been low for a long time and by and large is declined since 1951. Census data for year 2001 and 2011 on child sex ratio also depicts the same trend. Census data show a decline in child sex ratio in past two decades in India. Maternal Mortality Ratio in India is also very high. The higher death of pregnant women in the country depict either the poor medical and health facilities available to these mothers or some of the women living in rural and urban parts of the country are not availing medical facilities during pregnancy period. India has also recorded much progress in women life expectancy in the country, it was just 41.3 in 1960 which increased to 67.3 in 2011 and is projected 69.5 for the period 2011-15. Women in our country have very less representation in parliament right from independence and over the years not improved significantly. During the last 65 years 7.65% participation of women in parliament could increase. In this paper an attempt has been made to study the socio-economic development of women in India and to make conclusion and suggestion.

ATTITUDINAL STUDY OF QUALITY OF WORK LIFE: RESEARCH REVIEW
Dr. Roshan Lal Vashist
Abstract:
Quality of work life attempts to design work environment so as to maximize concern for human welfare. Quality of work life has remained a subject of interest for many research studies. The studies have been carried out on employees of different organizations and institutions making out the importance of a good quality of work life in an organization. After careful analysis of the studies of quality of work life it can be concluded that quality of work life is one of the factors among others aspects of job satisfaction. These interacting factors have cumulative impact on the work life of an individual and have significance from group to group and time to time. The quality of work life is not a unitary concept, rather it has to be seen as incorporating a hierarchy of prospective that not only include work based factors but also include factors that broadly reflect the satisfaction and general feelings of well being. The study also concludes that level of stress associated with job was uncomfortable most of the time and considered to be a serious concern for some of the employees. It is further observed that promotion, training, awards recognition and insurance protection have influenced the quality of work life of the employees of textile industry and these employees thought that job satisfaction and safety and healthy working conditions were necessary in order to develop human capacities and opportunities for further growth and security of the organization. In this paper an attempt has been made to review the available literature on quality of work life in order to have in depth knowledge and understanding the concept of ‘quality of work life’.

Emine Nedime Korucu, Renan Şeker
Abstract:
This study is made in order to compare the success of the students, their interest to the Science Lectures and their ability of remembering the things on the effects of their levels due to the Techniques of teaching Sience Lectures with Problem-based Learning (PBL) and Cooperative-Learning (CL). The central place of the research is the primary schools in Konya. For example, in Vali Çetinkaya Primary school, a study which has been operated by 7th grade students is conducted through the implementation of pretest-final test and reminder test. The unit titled „Journey to the Inner Structure of Item‟ has been taught in 7th grade students for 5 weeks time and in order to carry out our research, this unit is taught with the help of CL in one of the classes while teaching the same unit with PBL to the other class. A test is used to determine the students‟ level of success. This test‟s reliability exponent is Cronbachα =0.823 and it consists of 30 questions. In addition to this, a behavior scale (α=0.786) which consists of 30 sections is used to determine the students‟ perspectives to science. In research; the students‟ scores from pre-experiment and final test and the reminder test which has been implemented ten weeks later after the lesson and their perspectives to science are evaluated as dependent variable, the implemented teaching methods are evaluated as independent variable. At the end of the research, the datas which deal with the level of success and attitudues to science are compared by using SPSS and t-test. In final research, it is concluded both methods which have been implemented have similar effects on students‟ success but PBL creates a positive result compared to the CL method in terms of attitude. Moreover, the scores of the reminder test which has been implemented 10 weeks after the lesson suggests that There is a significant difference between the posttest and recall test achievement scores of the students in the group with CL method ( p < 0.05). This result shows that students who teach lessons with the CL and PBL method have forgotten some of what they have learned for 10 weeks. In conclusion, it is agreed that there is no appreciable difference between PBL and CL in terms of level of success. But both methods are affected positively in science education.

ASSIMILATION OF FOREIGNERS IN INDIAN SOCIETY WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO NORTH-WEST INDIA; A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Dr. S. Dharmen Singh
Abstract:
No society is static. It changes according to the nature of challenges it has to respond to and the requirements it has to answer. From the tribal society of the Rigvedic period to the feudal society of the early medieval period, Indian social structure underwent numerous changes. Politico-economic factors, changes in the mode of production, demographic changes, a continuous and large influx of foreigners etc were largely responsible for the social changes. But these phases of change mainly related to the history of North-West India. Those who migrated from other parts of the world were completely and swiftly absorbed within the indigenous social system. Some of them absorbed in the Hindu fold that they have virtually lost their separate entity and they are known as Indian or Hindustani. They followed common customs both with regards to the dress and eating habits. The paper is to find out new facts, to search out the causes responsible for the assimilation of foreigners and the development of the synthesis of Indian culture. Archaeological remains, the vast corpus of secular and religious literature are the main source of information.

Paradigmatic Approaches to Health Communication: An Analytical Study in the Indian Context
Dr. Mahendra Kumar Padhy, Mr. Ankit Srivastava
Abstract:
Societal communication has become as strong as a basic need of human life. Human beings are social animals and they cannot survive without communication. Communication helps in sharing and transfer of information from one person to another. Various mediums of mass communication like print, electronic and web medium help in influencing our thoughts and opinions to a larger extent. Like all the other aspects of our social media plays an important role in communicating information related to health. And the process to inform, encourage, promote and motivate people about health and health issues is known as 'Health Communication'. At the time of review of the literature, the researcher reviewed many studies that have been done in the past. The interpretative paradigm has little interest in conducting experiments and counting words or doing anything that attempts to make generalizations or predict or control behavior. The researcher has also consulted books, journals, articles, websites of Ministries etc for the literature part. Reviewing different available literature helped the researcher in understanding the work done in health aspect of rural women. It also helped in understanding the present situation of the identified problem. The researcher plays an active role in constructing these "truths", and the research, therefore, can be biased by the perspective of the researcher; of course the good qualitative research recognizes the potential for such bias and take steps to minimize it. Interpretative researchers employ qualitative methods such as interviewing and participant observation, gathering detailed, descriptive data that they can mine for meaning.
